Baby, it’s cold outside!

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Here in Ohio we’ve had a little relief today from the cold, tomorrow will also be warmer. For us midwesterners who are used to harsh winters when the temps get up in the 40’s in the winter it’s like a heat wave. We’re outside, cleaning things up, wearing jackets, no gloves…. heck it’s almost tee shirt weather! But, alas this will not last, we know that. We’ll be hit with cold, snow, WINTER, again soon.

When the weather does turn cold again (below freezing), we need to be ready with some cold weather gear. Gloves, hats, warm coats, and whatever it takes to keep us feeling all toasty in the chill. Some things we offer for those who have to work in colder areas are hat liners to go under your hard hats, heat packs, and some really nice cozy lined gloves (OK, I really like the fleece lined gloves!).

So, if you have to be in the cold, dress for it! Cover your ears, fingers, toes. Dress in layers, and in clothing that will keep you dry.

If you work in an area where the temperature isn’t all toasty how do you stay warm?

Our warehouse isn’t all that warm. The shipping office is warmer, but we don’t keep the heat cranked up because the people who do our shipping are in and out of the office/warehouse. So, we try to keep it around 60 in the shipping area. The workers generally wear lighter weight jackets, gloves, and hats to keep warm when they are picking product. When it’s time to get into the shipping office they often lose some of the gear.

A few weeks ago (OK, I think it was last week) we had some pretty bitter weather. To stay warm when working in the warehouse they needed a little more gear than they do on the normal 30 - 40 degree day. One of the things they found helpful was this handy dandy hood
